How to give a customer a quote in Shopify POS and get paid later

The short answer

In Shopify POS, a quote is a draft order (a POS Pro feature): build the cart, then tap the ⋯ menu > Create draft order. Lock its prices in the Shopify admin, then email it from Load Drafts > Email to customer. The email links to your checkout, so the customer accepts by paying, and you can text the draft’s link from the admin. A printed quote with prices needs an order-printer app.

How do I make a quote or estimate in Shopify POS?

Save the cart as a draft order. Add the products, any discount and the customer, then tap the ⋯ menu > Create draft order. The draft keeps the items, prices, discounts and customer until you’re ready to sell, so it works as your quote or estimate.

  1. Add the products to the cart. For one-off work, such as fitting or a made-to-order piece, tap Add custom sale and enter the price.
  2. Apply any discount to a line item or the whole cart.
  3. Add the customer, so you can email the quote.
  4. Tap the ⋯ menu > Create draft order.
Create draft order sits in the cart’s ⋯ menu. That saved draft is your quote.

To find the quote later, use the global search bar, which also searches draft orders. For every other draft action, including the staff permissions an admin discount needs, see draft orders in Shopify POS.

How do I stop the quoted price changing before they pay?

Lock the draft’s prices before you send it. A new draft’s prices can change until you lock them, so open it in the Shopify admin (Orders > Drafts) and click the ⋯ menu > Lock product pricing. Shopify says the lock is there for when “you need to maintain a quoted price to a customer despite any later changes”.

For a quote sent from the admin instead of POS, the Product prices setting in Send invoice and Share is on by default. Switching it off leaves every price in the draft open to change.

If stock is tight, reserve the items on the draft in the Shopify admin and pick the date and time the reserve expires. Reserved units move to Committed and can’t be bought by other customers. Use that expiry date as your “valid until”, and give the customer the date yourself, by phone or in your message. If it lapses unpaid, see chasing an unpaid draft invoice. If the checkout total still differs from the quote, see why a link can show a different price.

How do I send the quote to the customer from POS?

Email it from the saved draft. Tap the Order icon, then Load Drafts, and next to the draft tap the vertical ⋯ menu > Email to customer. Shopify says this is for a customer who “wants to review their cart and checkout online”, so the email links to your checkout and the customer can accept the quote by paying it.

Checkout asks the customer to choose a shipping method and may add shipping. To stop checkout adding shipping, turn on pickup at your location before the quote goes out: go to Settings > Shipping and delivery > Pickup in store, choose the location, activate Let customers pick up orders directly at this location and click Save.

If the cart is still open, tap More actions > Send cart. The email includes a summary of the cart and a link to your online checkout, you can add a message of your own, and Shopify saves the order as a draft. Check that draft’s price lock in the Shopify admin before the customer pays.

Shopify POS can email a draft but has no option to copy its link. To text the quote’s link, open the draft in the Shopify admin (Orders > Drafts), click Share > Copy link and paste the link into your message.

Route Where you start What the customer gets Customer can pay from it
Email to customer POS, saved draft Email with a checkout link Yes
Send cart POS, open cart Email with a cart summary and a checkout link Yes
Share > Copy link Shopify admin, draft A checkout link you paste into a message Yes
Printed quote Shopify admin draft, through an order-printer app Paper or PDF quote with prices Not by itself: load the draft to the cart or send its link

Can I print a quote with prices from Shopify POS?

Not from the Shopify admin or POS as they come. Shopify’s help says: “Draft orders can’t be printed.” Shopify POS has no print button for a draft either. For a priced paper quote, use an order-printer app that prints drafts as quotes from the draft in the Shopify admin.

Order Printer Pro is one example: its help says it “supports Draft orders, allowing you to print quotes to customers.” For how the main apps compare, see order printer apps that print drafts, compared. The printing guide covers every way to print a draft from POS.

A prep ticket is a different document. It lists items, quantities, customer and notes with no prices, so it’s the workroom copy, not the customer’s quote; see what a prep ticket is.

How do I change a quote after I’ve sent it?

Load the draft back into the POS cart, change it and save it over the old version. Open the draft, tap Load draft order, then Load to cart. Edit the items, prices or discounts, then tap Update draft order, and send the revised quote again.

Check the shipping and the price lock before you resend. If you add a product after you’ve sent an invoice, shipping rates already calculated don’t update by themselves, and a custom shipping rate set in the Shopify admin is dropped when you load the draft in POS.

What happens when the customer accepts the quote?

The customer accepts by opening the link in the quote email, entering their billing details and paying at your checkout. When a customer checks out from a draft’s link, the draft becomes an order on the Orders page and is marked as Paid automatically.

If the customer would rather pay in person, load the draft to the cart and take payment at the counter. To check where a paid quote shows up, see how to tell a payment link has been paid.

How long does a Shopify quote stay valid?

A Shopify draft has no quote expiry date. Drafts created on or after April 1, 2025 are deleted after one year with no activity, and any edit resets the timer. The reserve expiry on the items is the only date you set yourself. More in the one-year draft rule.

Is there a quote app for Shopify POS?

Yes. Apps such as Bevy OrderPilot add a Create Quote tile to Shopify POS for quotes, custom orders and deposits; as of October 2026 it costs US$60.00/month per location, with a 14-day free trial. Order-printer apps such as Order Printer Pro handle printed quotes, and the draft order itself already holds the quote.

How do I take payment for an accepted quote without leaving Shopify POS?

If you handed over a printed quote or agreed it by phone, no link has gone out yet. The draft’s link sits in the Shopify admin (Orders > Drafts > Share > Copy link), not in POS.

To make the payment link from the POS cart instead, use Pay Link, from Countermade (Invenire Studios’ Shopify POS apps). Load the quote into the cart as above and make the link there. Staff see the total up front, with a note when checkout will add shipping, and can see whether the link has been paid. Once it’s paid, delete the old quote from the Order icon > Drafts (⋮ > Delete draft) if it’s still listed.

If the screen is tapped twice, Pay Link still makes one link, not two. The customer pays on Shopify’s own secure checkout; staff never see or type card details. Pay Link takes full payment and needs Shopify POS Pro.

Pay Link shows staff the total before the link is made, with a note when checkout will add shipping.

Common questions

Does Shopify POS have a quote or estimate feature?
Not by that name. A draft order works as your quote or estimate: build the cart, tap the ⋯ menu > Create draft order (a POS Pro feature), then email it from Load Drafts or print it from the admin with an order-printer app.
Can a customer pay a Shopify quote online?
Yes. The quote email links to your store’s checkout, where the customer enters billing details, chooses a shipping method and pays. Shopify then turns the draft into a paid order.
Can I make quotes with Shopify POS Lite?
No. Saving the cart as a draft and Send cart both need a location on Shopify POS Pro. See what POS Lite can do instead.
Can I take a deposit on a Shopify POS quote?
Quote apps such as Bevy OrderPilot add deposits to quotes in Shopify POS. For what each Shopify plan allows without a quote app, see taking a deposit, plan by plan.
Can I send a Shopify POS quote by text message?
Yes, by copying the draft’s checkout link in the Shopify admin. Go to Orders > Drafts, open the draft, click Share > Copy link, and paste the link into your text. The customer pays from that link at your checkout.
